Classroom Management Pathway

Description: Classroom management can be thought of as how the teacher manipulates the conditions in the classroom to facilitate students’ learning. Every action that the teacher takes inside the classroom will have an impact on the environment and affect students learning in either a positive or a negative way. Teachers should always strive to create conditions inside the classroom where students are best able to learn. Classroom management is all about creating these conditions. In these modules, the classroom environment is broken into five broad areas, each of which the teachers can influence through their decisions and actions. The modules help teachers reflect on how their decisions and actions in each of these areas will influence the learning conditions.

There are five modules in the pathway:

1) Managing students,

2) Teacher language,

3) Managing resources,

4) Effective use of time, and

5) Body and voice.

The modules all have five lessons, each of which explores a specific aspect around the main topic. Each lesson is then broken down into between three and five subsections and finishes with some questions for reflection. Finally, each module ends with a Module wrap-up, where participants are encouraged to reflect on the content of the module and how this can help them in their teaching practice.
